IDTA Silver Anniversary Showcase

On 8th January we kicked off 2012 by performing two routines at the IDTA's silver anniversary showcase. This event took place at the Sunderland Empire a beautiful venue, which many of the students involved had not performed at before. A combination of our Junior and Senior cheer squads presented a new and exciting routine including spelling out IDTA at the beginning, this seemed to go down well with an audience that included members of the IDTA comittee and faculty. In act two our senior modern class performed Fields of Gold, one of the stand out numbers form our 2011 Gala show. They looked beautiful as always. The showcase featured numerous IDTA schools from throughout the region and we were delighted to take part. Well done to everyone involved.

Through The Looking Glass (UK Premiere)

Just before Easter Tyne Theatre Stage were proud to present the UK premiere of Through the Looking Glass. It was fantastic to be the first school in the UK to perform this show, and only the second school worldwide. We had 76 children taking part, playing exciting characters including Humpty Dumpty, The Red Queen, Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee. Staging a full production was extremely beneficial to all children involved as they not only had a great time but also made new friends whilst honing their performance skills. The show was a great success playing two sell out shows at the People’s Theatre Heaton.

BCA Cheerleading

Tyne Theatre Stage School attended the BCA North East Classic for our 3rd consecutive year in May and once again had an amazing time. Two years ago we entered one team of 16 girls and since then our cheer classes have become so popular that we took 5 teams and a total of 70 children on the short walk down to Metro Radio Arena. Squads were competing from throughout the UK and the standard as always was very high, but once again TTSS came out with some amazing results

On June 30th , pupils from our Junior and Senior cheer teams traveled to Southport to perform at the IDTA Dance Teachers Congress.  TTSS was one of only 10 schools chosen out of the whole country to take part, performing to a special audience of Examiners, Dance Teachers and even Strictly Come Dancing judge Len Goodman. We had a fantastic weekend traveling down by coach and taking part in Caroline’s famous quiz. We even ended up putting on an impromptu performance at a couple’s wedding in the hotel on the Saturday evening; they seemed to enjoy it and commented “it was like having Britain’s Got Talent at their wedding”. The final showcase was fantastic and it was a privilege to perform at such a beautiful theatre with so many friendly and talented dancers. Thank you to the IDTA for given a pupils such a wonderful experience.

Goodbye and Goodluck

Senior pupil Keri Lewis has just been offered a full 3 year scholarship to attend Bodyworks Dance Company from September.
